What I help with
- Wi-Fi that doesn’t reach every room, or drops as you move around the house
- Internet that cuts out or runs well below the speed you pay for
- Setting up a new router, mesh Wi-Fi system, or access points, and reconnecting your devices
- Printers, smart TVs, and other devices that won’t connect or keep disconnecting
- A separate guest network, so visitors stay off your main one
- Wi-Fi security: a strong password, current updates, and settings that close common gaps
- For businesses: office Wi-Fi coverage, network switches, and secure remote access to the office (VPN)
How I work
I test before recommending anything. A dead spot might need an extra access point, or the router might simply be inside a cabinet. Slow speeds can come from the Wi-Fi, the equipment, or the internet provider, and each one has a different fix.
If new equipment will make a real difference, I tell you exactly what to buy and you purchase it directly, so there’s no markup. I then install it, connect your devices, and show you what changed.
If the problem is on your internet provider’s side, I write down what I found and tell you exactly what to ask them for.
What a typical visit includes
- Speed tests at the modem and in the rooms where you have trouble
- A check of the router’s placement, settings, and updates
- Fixes that can be made on the spot, such as settings, placement, and channel changes
- Specific equipment recommendations, only if they’re needed, within the budget you set
- A final check that coverage and speed are where they should be before I leave
What a customer said
Had issues with my WiFi along with computer issues. Someone introduced me to MJC. Matthew resolved all our issues quickly and very affordably! Highly recommend!
What it costs
Most Wi-Fi problems are handled on-site at $100 an hour with a one-hour minimum. Router settings and some connection problems can be handled remotely at $85 an hour with a 30-minute minimum. After the minimum, time is billed in 15-minute increments. Before any work starts, you approve the plan, the estimated cost, and a spending limit. See full pricing and travel terms.
Common questions
Do I need a mesh Wi-Fi system?
Not always. Mesh systems help in larger homes or homes with thick walls, but sometimes moving the router or changing a setting solves the problem without buying anything. I test first and only recommend equipment when it will make a real difference.
What equipment do you recommend?
It depends on the size of the space and how you use the internet. After testing, I recommend specific models that fit your needs and your budget, and you buy them directly.
Can you fix my Wi-Fi remotely?
Sometimes. Router settings and some connection problems can be fixed remotely at the lower rate. Dead spots and new equipment usually need a visit, because coverage has to be tested in person.
Will you call my internet provider for me?
Most providers will only discuss an account with the account holder, so you’ll usually need to make the call. I’ll give you a summary of what I found and exactly what to ask for, so you go in knowing what’s wrong.
