What I help with
- Slow performance, freezing, crashes, or constant error messages
- New computer setup, including your files, photos, email, and programs from the old one
- Printers and scanners that won’t connect, won’t print, or won’t scan to your computer
- Windows and Mac updates that fail or cause new problems
- Programs that won’t open, install, update, or sign in
- Backups for your files and photos, so one failed laptop doesn’t take them with it
- For businesses: preparing computers for new employees and wiping old ones before they’re reused or recycled
How I work
I diagnose before changing anything. A slow computer might need a cleanup, a corrected setting, or an honest conversation about whether it’s worth fixing at all.
If there’s any risk to your files, I back them up first. For a new computer, I set it up the way you like it and move everything over, and the old computer stays untouched until you’ve confirmed nothing is missing.
I don’t do hardware repairs such as cracked screens, broken keyboards, or failed parts. If that’s the problem, I’ll tell you and refer you to a repair shop.
Moving to a new computer
- Documents, photos, music, and desktop files
- Email accounts, contacts, and calendars
- Browser bookmarks and saved passwords, where the browser allows it
- Your printer and Wi-Fi, connected and tested
- The programs you use, reinstalled with your existing licenses
- A walkthrough of anything that looks or works differently on the new computer
What a customer said
Great customer service. Matthew was very professional and knowledgeable when it came to issues I was having with my home computer. After outlining the issues I was experiencing, he was very patient in explaining to this boomer what he was doing and why he was doing it. My computer is working efficiently again and I have a new sense of security. I would highly recommend MJC Business IT to anyone needing assistance with their personal or small business needs.
What it costs
Many computer problems can be fixed remotely at $85 an hour with a 30-minute minimum. Printers and new computer setups usually need a visit, at $100 an hour with a one-hour minimum. After the minimum, time is billed in 15-minute increments. Before any work starts, you approve the plan, the estimated cost, and a spending limit. See full pricing and travel terms.
Common questions
Is my computer worth fixing?
I’ll give you an honest answer. If fixing it would cost close to what a new computer does, I’ll say so, and I can help you choose a replacement and set it up.
Will I lose my files?
Not if I can help it. If a repair could affect your files, I back them up first. If a drive is already failing, I’ll tell you plainly what can and can’t be recovered.
Do you work on Macs?
Yes. I work on both Windows and Mac computers.
Can you help me pick a new computer?
Yes. I’ll recommend a model that fits how you actually use it, and you buy it directly from the store or manufacturer. I can then set it up and move your files over.
